Tailor Toyo Sukajan – Tiger vs Dragon (Mt. Fuji)
A vintage-inspired reversible souvenir jacket featuring detailed embroidery of a tiger facing off against a dragon, with Mt. Fuji in the background. Crafted in quilted satin with ribbed trim and bold emerald, cream, and burgundy tones. A timeless symbol of Japanese-American postwar heritage and craftsmanship.
Reversible side 45th Tactical Recon Sqdn (1951–1952)
This vintage style features bold embroidery honoring the 45th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. The back showcases a reconnaissance pilot mid-mission with the slogan “Search and Destroy” and “First and Last Over Target,” referencing Korean War service.
About the Brand:
Tailor Toyo—operated under the legendary Toyo Enterprise—is renowned for crafting authentic Japanese sukajan(souvenir jackets). Its roots trace back to the 1940s, when the original company, Kosho & Co., began as an import/export fabric merchant. In the post‑World War II period, this company secured a dominant 95% share of souvenir jackets sold to U.S. military personnel stationed in Japan.
By combining familiar American baseball jacket styles with traditional Japanese embroidery—often using available acetate instead of silk—Tailor Toyo became synonymous with quality craftsmanship and cultural fusion. Today, each jacket is painstakingly embroidered (by craftsmen, notably from Kiryu and Ashikaga), capturing motifs like tigers, dragons, eagles, Japan maps, or Vietnam imagery—an homage to its historical lineage
